2008-10-02 and 10-03: Hotel Negresco

The best hotel in the area, the last of the privately owned palace in the world, famous for its architecture and more than 500 pieces of art and antique collections.  It was built by Romanian Henri Negresco, and opened in 1913, classified as Historic Monument in 2003.  We stayed there 3 nights, an art museum.

The Versailles Room on the ground floor.  The painting in the center is that of Louis XIV in ceremonial dress. 

The hall way from the Lobby leads to the Royal Room.

Famous uniformed valet of the palace, with sign of the keys on the uniform and a bill in his hand, both indicate solutions to everything,   hmmm, almost everything.

Madame Jeanne Augier, the owner of the hotel since 1957, and the painter Salvador Dali.  Madame Augier collected most of the art, furnitures, and rare objects.  They are exhibited everywhere inside the hotel. 

The Royal Salon.  The chandelier is composed of 16,800 pieces of Baccarat crystal. A twin copy is in the Kremlin in Moskow, ordered by Russian Tzar.

Dr. and Mrs. George Chang, my classmate from as early as 53 years ago, 1956.  A superb vascular surgeon, worked actively, and was on call for whole week, until his retirement at age 70.  He finished carotid endarterectomy, which might take one and a half hour ordinarily, in 28 minutes, a record.
